WOW infrastructure installation plan
WOW's installation contractor will be installing their underground infrastructure in four phases that correspond to the four sub-associations in Central Park.
MISSDIG is on-site today in the Manors to mark all of the existing underground utilities. As soon as that is complete, the contractor will begin underground work within the Manors. When the work in the Manors is nearly complete in a week or two, MISSDIG will begin marking the utilities in the Meadows and then the contractor will shift their underground work to that sub. The same pattern will follow for the underground work in the Gardens and Kensington sub-associations.

Here is an outline summary of the information they provided.
Here is an outline summary of the information they provided.
- Above-ground installations include (from biggest to smallest and fewest to most)
- fiber node box, with power supply [photo]
- Qty = 2,
- one near a DTE transformer behind 6919 Kingsland,
- other near a DTE transformer to the east of 7011 North Central Park

- pedestal, regular [photo]
- the WOW pedestals will be located next to the existing Comcast pedestals
- Underground work is of three types
- horizontal directional boring using a large machine [animation] [video]
- for long cable runs up to 350 ft. long between the entry and exit holes
- bore hole will be between 24 to 30 inches below the surface
- wood and rubber mats are placed beneath this machine to minimize damage to landscaping
- once the cable is pulled back through the bored hole, the cable ends are cut and left protruding up from the entry and exit points until the next phase of work begins which will connect the cables into a network; in the meantime, the horizontal boring machine moves on to make more directional bores
- underground pneumatic boring (aka "missiles") [video]
- for short cable runs
- inspection holes
- dug by hand to expose existing utilities
- required wherever a boring crosses above or below existing underground utility lines
- During construction, the contractor's equipment and materials will be stored in the Manors on the vacant lot just north of 49847 Lexington West
- During construction, the contractor will make repairs to any sprinkler system components that are inadvertently damaged; work crews carry irrigation repair supplies and components on their trucks so that they can fix them as soon as damage is noticed; residents are advised to run their sprinkler systems as soon as the construction is finished in their area to confirm that there are no leaks or operating issues; if there is a problem, flag down any worker or call the contractor's office at 517-468-3200 or contact their Quality Control Supervisor, Joe Stubblefield, Jr., on his cell phone at 517-930-4628
- Door tags will be hung tomorrow by the contractor at all addresses within Central Park informing residents of the impending construction.
- Construction will begin next week once MISSDIG has marked all existing underground utilities
- Construction will take somewhere between two and three months to complete, depending on weather
- WOW service will be available for purchase within one to two weeks after completion of construction (sometime around the 4th of July or possibly earlier)
